The 2011 Chevrolet Volt
I make no secret about NOT being the biggest GM fan around. The simple fact is that GM made and sold crappy vehicles to the American population for the better part of 4 decades. Strike 1. Then, when people FINALLY seemed to catch on, their sales dried up to the point that they had to dip into the government’s pockets (read: OUR POCKETS) to pull themselves out of the hole. Strike 2. And while GM has recently started building much better quality products, they have found a way to screw us again – Price gouging.

Edmunds, under the guise of being an ‘average Joe,’ recently contacted their local Chevy dealer to inquire about purchasing a Chevy Volt.  (The upcoming all electric powered sedan)  The dealer sent this (minus names to protect the stupid) in return…

Thank you for your online request, as you know the Volt is going to be a very limited production vehicle for the first 2-3 years. Demand is going to far exceed supply for this vehicle, initially our asking price for the Volt is going to be MSRP plus $20,000, we are expecting only receive 9 Volts all of next year.

I will keep you in my customer base for when the Volt comes out and I will contact you with any information as I receive it. We are taking orders right now for the Volt, if you would like more information, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you. Thank you.

Did you catch that?  $20,000 OVER MSRP!!!  I understand supply & demand, but this is borderline criminal.  No matter what GM seems to do, WE always seem to be their lowest priority.  Strike 3 GM, you’re out.
