The dismantling of the Jensen Healey continued over the weekend with my father and I (stocked up on beer and enthusiasm) attacked the little roadster for all we were worth. We started by cutting the exhaust…

The exhaust pipe and muffler came out easy, but the header was a pain as it’s pipes actually go around the steering shaft. We removed the shaft to release the header, then re-installed it.

Then into the trunk we went where the gas tank, fuel pump, tail lights and trim were removed…

I started on the interior by removing the door panels…

The biggest challenge of the day came from the polished door jam trim. It looked like 2 small screws would do it. Nope. The previous owner had apparently decided that some reinforcement was due in case the world was invaded by aliens looking for polished Jensen trim – so he put in the strongest double sided tape known to man, as well as some kind of gooey, nasty, road tar-like ‘stuff’. It took hours of frustration to get the passenger side off and half of the driver’s side loose. I was about to pull my hair out and check into the local looney bin when my father suggested trying the heat gun. 8 seconds later it was out. Here I am showing the stretchiness of the mysterious tar-glue-sealant-gooey stuff.

We wrapped up by removing the passenger seat and starting on the dash removal. Here’s the old man really getting into his work…

Today, I’m planning on getting the rest of the dash out – easier said than done, I’m sure. I’ll keep you posted.
